Gifted and Talented
What do we mean by Gifted and Talented?
Gifted pupils are those with academic ability which places them significantly above the average for their Year group. Talented pupils are those whose abilities in art, music, dance or sport are significantly above average (although this should not restrict a school/college's approach to multiple abilities.)
From the Present to the Future by Sandra Roberts, Director of Southend Excellence Cluster
The Gifted and Talented Strand set out with an aim to be inclusive, inviting all Southend Schools to engage with the initiative. Over 90% of schools now have a named co-ordinator engaged in this work, with 75% of all co-ordinators having completed the five day training programme. All of these schools now have good systems in place for identifying able, gifted and talented pupils and policies to ensure they are getting an improved provision.
